Build a Backpack at Walmart through Aug. 31

If you’ve shopped at Walmart in the past couple weeks you’ve probably seen signs like the one pictured here.

Just in case you still aren’t sure what the statewide Build a Backpack campaign is all about, here’s a little background:

Last year, the Communities In Schools state office introduced a partnership with Walmart stores across North Carolina that would fuel the largest back-to-school supply drive in retailer’s history. After an incredibly successful first run, Build a Backpack has returned.

Now through Aug. 31, shoppers can drop off school supplies in the bins located at the front entrances of each Walmart store.  At the end of the month, the supplies will be delivered to the local CIS affiliate working with that particular store.

Communities In Schools of Lexington/Davidson County will receive supplies from Walmart of Lexington (160 Lowes Blvd.). Everything we collect will be distributed directly to students in the Lexington City or Davidson County school systems.

Monetary donations are also helpful because they allow us to purchase additional supplies and fill specific requests that can’t be met with donated items.

Please call us at 242-1520 if you’d like to learn more about how your donations help local students.
